- how to upload your site with FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
- how to publish your site with Microsoft Front Page
- how to get e-mail at you@
- your custom e-mail configuration - your daily traffic reports - various internet resources - technical support options available to you ------------------------------ UPLOADING YOUR WEB SITE There are several ways to upload your web site to your web server. We have included two common ways here in this message. 1) One is with an FTP (file transfer protocol) program, 2) the other is with the Microsoft Front Page publish feature. ------------------------------ 1) UPLOADING YOUR WEB SITE WITH FTP You can upload your web site the traditional way, with an FTP (file transfer protocol) computer program. There are several FTP programs available on the web. Simply use these settings below: RECOMMENDED FTP SETTINGS REQUIRED Host Name/Address: www.
REQUIRED User ID: [Please replace with appropriate username] REQUIRED Password: [Please replace with appropriate password] OPTIONAL Initial Remote Host Directory (on server): public_html cPanel Login URL: http://www./cpanel Special Note: if for some reason your domain name has not yet transferred or registered at your domain registrar, you should use your web server IP Address as your host name and address, which is: Host Name/Address: /cpanel You can use the following URL to test our your site before you transfer the DNS: http://.netatlantic.com/~[Please replace with appropriate username] If you do not have an FTP program, please download one for free at: http://www.netatlantic.com/techsupport.html OTHER ITEMS WHEN USING AN FTP PROGRAM Your home page can be named any one of the following: index.html index.htm default.html default.htm welcome.html welcome.htm home.html home.htm index.shtml index.cgi By default, the server will look for and display the first of these pages it finds when someone simply enters either or www. . So if you have a web page called index.html in your main directory as well as a page named home.html, the index.html page is the one which will automatically be displayed by default. Also, your home page MUST use lower case letters, as in the examples above. Generally speaking, it is best to use file names in all lower case letters, and best to not use spaces in any file names. If you entered the Initial Remote Host Directory information (above) in your ftp program then you are all ready to upload your web pages and graphics. You should see a web page called index.htm which you can overwrite when you upload your web site. If you did not enter the Initial Remote Host Directory information (above), you will see a folder marked www. when you ftp into your directory on the server. Click on that folder (directory) to go into your domain. Upload all your files and images into that domain directory. This way when people type in your domain name, it is these pages that come up. You can create additional directories off of your home directory. FTP upload for PCs: Html (web page) and graphic files (such as gif and jpeg files) are normally uploaded in binary format. Perl and CGI scripts (if any) uploaded to your CGI bin are best uploaded as ASCII text. FTP upload for Mac: Mac users and people using Fetch for the Mac should use the raw data setting to upload graphics and images, and raw data or text setting to upload text. Try testing out a few web pages at first to make sure all is working correctly before you upload your entire site. TIP: To make things more organized, many web developers create a subdirectory within their domain called "images," or "graphics" and put all graphical files there. Multimedia files such as video clips and audio files are often uploaded to directories call "media". ------------------------------ 2) UPLOADING WITH MICROSOFT FRONT PAGE EXTENSIONS Your web server contains Microsoft Front Page Server Extensions. These server-side extensions can help make it easier to publish or upload your web site, create interactive forms with the Front Page Forms Wizard, add a counter, write to a database, and much more. When you Publish your web site with Front Page, you are asked for three things: 1) Host Name/Address: www.
2) User Name: [Please replace with appropriate username] 3) Password: [Please replace with appropriate password] Important Note: If you used Microsoft Front Page to develop your web site and your web site makes use of Front Page server extensions for things like counters, forms, search tools, and databases, you MUST use the publish feature in Front Page to upload your site (rather than upload your site with an FTP program). Your home page can be named any one of the following: index.html index.htm default.html default.htm welcome.html welcome.htm home.html home.htm index.shtml index.cgi By default, the server will look for and display the first of these pages it finds when someone simply enters either or www. . So if you have a web page called index.html in your main directory as well as a page named home.html, the index.html page is the one which will automatically be displayed by default. Also, your home page MUST use lower case letters, as in the examples above. ------------------------------ E-MAIL FORWARDING You can now receive e-mail at your new domain address. For example, you can now tell people to e-mail you at: susan@

You can also receive e-mail at your domain in virtually unlimited ways. For example, you can now receive e-mail addressed to: susan@
john@
sales@
support@
info@
feedback@
freereport@

and anything else. Give it a try! All e-mail will be forwarded to the e-mail address you desire. Your domain name comes with 5 e-mail POP (Post Office Protocol) accounts. By default, all e-mail is redirected to the e-mail account listed above. This is the easiest way to get your e-mail. However, if you would like e-mail POP account mailboxes to have your mail stored on the mail server, just log in to: http://www./cpanel and click on Mail. If you would like to know how to put your domain name into your mail from or reply to e-mail address when you send out mail, go here: http://www.netatlantic.com/info/articles/emailconfig.html If you have other people in your organization who also would like to receive their e-mail @ and have it redirected to their dial-up account, just let us know and we will add them at no extra charge. Testing your new e-mail capability: You should send a test message to yourself at your domain name to be sure that it is being correctly redirected to your internet access account. You should receive all your mail in a normal manner. Note: If you ever change your internet service provider (such as changing from America Online to Media One or Earthlink, for example) just let us know and we will change your e-mail forwarding for you at no cost. TIP: Use the filters feature on your e-mail program to read the headers on your incoming e-mail and filter different messages into different mail boxes. For example, mail sent to sales@ can be filtered into your sales mailbox on your e-mail program for a sales follow-up. TIP: If you utilize different e-mail addresses on different web pages or in different business promotions, you can track where your inquiries originate from. TIP: For tips on using e-mail links see: http://www.netatlantic.com/info/articles/links-in-email.html ------------------------------ TRAFFIC REPORTS You should know that traffic reports are generated for your site every day.
